SECRET ILLUSIONS is a somewhat convoluted story that takes the reader on a journey through the UK as James has to rescue Gabrielle time and time again. Nevertheless, the love between James and Gabrielle is very strong, and it was great seeing James, a die-hard bachelor, fall in love. This was a satisfying read filled with lots of adventure as Gabrielle got into one scrape after another. Laura James has penned an interesting story that will keep the reader hanging on until the very end. ~ 3.5 Blue Ribbon Rating, Sarah W @ Romance Junkies
Laura James' Secret Illusions is a historical romance set in the late 1700's England. Without a doubt, the author spent a good deal of time trying to capture the atmosphere of the times in which the story takes place. However, I found this book's pace too slow for my taste and the hero is not introduced until the fifth chapter. I also found the style to be somewhat detached and the flow felt a bit awkward. Although Gabrielle is a character that grows during the first few chapters of the book, neither she nor the hero (Lord James Armstrong, Marquis of Scarborough) appealed to me. If you like historical romances like Cheryl Holt's, I would say Secret Illusions would be a good choice for you. ~ Mireya Orsini @ The Road to Romance

SECRET ILLUSIONS ~ Lord Armstrong is quite a rogue. He is the kind that is perfect for every woman but commits to no woman, that is, until he meets the intriguing Gabriella. Gabriella falls for him but when she sees him with another woman she boards a boat. Well guess who happens to end up on the same boat? Yep, you guessed it and the book takes off from there. It is a book of chance meetings and rescuing of a damsel in distress. I loved the characters and loved the setting. ~ The Romance Zone ~
